Tone Empire『ValveKult』A saturation plugin that creates rich distortion of tubes with new technology

This is the recent new saturation plugin from ToneEmpire that incorporates AI and neural networks.

It allows you to apply distortions ranging from subtle to Lofi-like with simple controls.

You can purchase it here.

■Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Offers warm saturation

■Cons:

  • Can be heavy on CPU

Since the plugin has few parameters, you can get a sense of its effects by watching the video.

However, when creating the video, I wasn’t aware of the parameter relationships, so I did some research and want to share the results. (Although it’s not a detailed analysis)

Based on my observations while trying it out on the manufacturer’s website, I believe the signal flow goes something like this:

I would like the knobs to be arranged in this order…

In addition, based on my research, each vacuum tube has specific frequency characteristics (though they may vary with different amounts of distortion applied), and here are some of their notable features:

If you refer to this information while watching the video above, you should be able to understand what adjustments create which sounds.

However, in practice, I think it’s fine to insert the plugin into your track, tweak the knobs until it sounds good, and that should be the right answer.

That’s how these types of effects work.

One thing to note is that the ToneEmpire plugins that incorporate “neural network technology” and “AI” tend to be heavier on CPU usage.

As a result, it is heavier than the PluginAliance BlackBox HG-2MS but lighter than AcusticaAudio Taupe.

It may be too heavy as a saturation plugin for your track…

If you use it, I recommend using it with Reaper! lol
